Ingredients for Easy Homemade Brownies

Unsweetened Cocoa Powder - I always recommend using high-quality ingredients for any recipe for best results. In this recipe, I always like using high-quality Dutch-processed cocoa powder or dark cocoa. Dutch-processed cocoa powder is darker, less acidic, and result in fudgier baked goods making it the perfect cocoa for these fudgy easy homemade brownies. I use either 100% dark cocoa from Ghirardelli or Hershey's Dutch-processed dark cocoa as they are readily available in my area however you can use any other high-quality brand in your area. Remember this is what gives the color, flavor, and texture to the brownie.
Oil - I used canola oil in the easy homemade brownies recipe, however, you can use any non-flavored oil in this brownie.
Eggs - 2 large eggs at room temperature. Eggs are the most important ingredient in this recipe for the structure of the brownie. Since this brownie does not have any Baking powder or baking soda there are no leavening or puffing agents. So eggs are the only ones that will help the brownie to puff up a bit in the oven.

Water - A little water helps in making the brownie moist and gooey.
Chocolate Chips - I used semi-sweet chocolate chips for the brownie as that is how everyone likes it at my place. However, if you are looking for something to cut through the sweetness you can use dark chocolate chips instead.
Vanilla extract - Vanilla extract helps to boost the flavors of the easy homemade brownies.
Granulated Sugar - Granulated sugar is required for that beautiful crisp candy-like crust and that soft interior in a brownie. Do not replace granulated sugar with any other sugar.
Powdered Sugar - Powdered sugar has cornstarch in it which helps to thicken the batter and works as a binding agent for the brownie.
Salt - Salt always helps enhance the sweetness of any brownies or cakes. So a little salt is needed in this brownie recipe.
All-Purpose Flour - Sifted All-purpose flour.

batter ready
Pour the batter into the pan prepared earlier. Use a spatula to spread the batter evenly. Remember the batter will be thick so be careful not to move the parchment paper while spreading the batter. Sprinkle a handful of or ¼th cup of chocolate chips on top for a beautiful look.

Bake the easy homemade brownie for 40-45 minutes or until the toothpick comes out with only a few crumbs. Do not over bake the brownie as that will lead to a hard and dry brownie. It is always good to get it out a minute before then to leave it in a minute extra.
Get the pan out of the oven and let it cool down to room temperature before you get it out of the pan.

Slice the brownies only once it is completely cooled otherwise it will stick to the knife and lead to uneven pieces.

Serve them fresh or store them in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days. You can refrigerate them for 7 to 8 days. Since we are making them with oil you can even freeze them and they thaw easily when you want to serve.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is oil used instead of butter in the brownie recipe?
Oil is neutral, thus it allows the chocolate to shine. Also, oil makes the batter liquid and this makes the final baked brownie rich and indulgent. Another reason to avoid the use of butter in the easy homemade brownies recipe is that the butter makes the brownie light and fluffs it more. What we need is a dense, fudgy, gooey brownie which is only possible with the use of oil.
Can you substitute water with milk in the brownie?
Yes, you can replace water with milk in the brownie recipe. This will infract enhance the flavors and also add more moisture to the brownie.

Why do we add confectioner's sugar to the brownie batter?
Confectioners sugar or commonly called powdered sugar contains cornstarch which helps to thicken the batter.
Can I use regular cocoa powder instead of dutch-processed cocoa powder in the Easy Homemade Brownies?
Since this recipe doesn't call for baking powder or baking soda, you can use regular cocoa powder instead of dark dutch-processed cocoa powder. This will yield lighter-colored brownies with less intense chocolate flavors.

What is the best way to serve the brownies?
You can eat the brownie just as it is or have it with a glass of cold milk. I love to have my brownie warmed up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with a little chocolate or caramel sauce. These fresh easy homemade brownies are irresistible when served in this fashion.
How long do these brownies last and how to store them?
These easy homemade brownies will last up to 3 days in an airtight container at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator. Of course, you can always freeze them for up to a month. But believe me, they are so irresistible and decadent that they won't last for long if you know what I mean.

- Measure all the ingredients before you start making the easy homemade brownies.
- You could add a teaspoon of instant coffee for added flavor.
