So growing up back in India I had so many varieties of Ladoos like Rava Ladoo, Besan Ladoo, Boondi Ladoo, and many more. But I was so in love with Besan Ladoos and Motichoor Ladoos that given an option I would always choose them. I never paid much attention to so many other varieties, of course, I ate all the variety but my mind used to get stuck on those two.

I still remember the first time I had these delicious, fudgy Coconut Ladoo with condensed milk at my friend's place and was pleasantly surprised by the creamy beautiful flavors. It has that beautiful texture and flavor that you can savor in your mouth for a minute and appreciate the simple delicate flavors. I instantly fell in love with these Coconut Ladoos. My friend makes it every year for a Diwali party and it is one of the sweets I look forward to at her place.

I had not even thought of making these Ladoos till a couple of years back, as I would always be able to eat them at my friend's place. But then Covid lead to lock down and first time in many years everyone was stuck at home and there were no Diwali celebrations. I really missed having these Coconut Ladoos and hence decided to make a batch for myself.
I was so surprised that they need only a handful of ingredients and the best part was they were ready in under 10 minutes. I was like wow I mean really wow you can really get something this delicious ready in just 10 minutes.

What is a Coconut Ladoo with condensed milk?
As mentioned above Coconut Ladoo or Nariyal Ladoo are quick, delicious, and fudgy Indian sweets. Made with simple ingredients like desiccated coconut, condensed milk, ghee, and some milk this is ready in just 10 minutes. What is the best part is there are only 2 minutes of cooking required. I love keeping some easy and quick recipes up my sleeves for emergencies or when there is a crunch of time.

Ingredients for Coconut Ladoo

Coconut - You will need Shredded/desiccated coconut for this recipe. Also, it needs to be unsweetened for the expected results. Desiccated coconut is shredded or powdered coconut that is dried completely.
Condensed Milk - We need sweetened condensed milk that is easily available in any supermarket or grocery store. You will need only ½ a cup of it for this recipe so store the remaining in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Milk - Milk is one of the optional ingredients in this recipe. If you like your Ladoo to be sweeter and you end up adding extra condensed milk then you might not need milk. But I would recommend adding at least a couple of tablespoons to make the Ladoos soft and moist
Ghee - Ghee gives the Ladoos a beautiful flavor as well as helps with the roasting process. It also works as a binding agent. But you can always skip it in case you don't have it, it would not impact the coconut Ladoo making process.

How to make Coconut Ladoo step by step
Take a pan and set it on medium heat. Once it heats up add ghee to the pan.

Once the ghee melts add the desiccated coconut to it and roast it on medium to low heat for 2 to 3 minutes until you get a nice fragrance of coconut. Roast it just enough to have a nice fragrance and a very slight change in color. But be careful not to brown it.

Desiccated coconut
Once you turn off the heat immediately transfer the dry coconut to a mixing bowl.

To the desiccated coconut add the condensed milk and using a spatula mix it well till there is no dry coconut powder left.

Since the mixture is still a little dry to roll, add 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk and mix it together. Set it aside for about 5 minutes so that the coconut absorbs all the milk and everything comes together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I skip roasting the desiccated coconut?
Roasting the coconut releases the oil in the coconut as well as makes the coconut light and aromatic. This builds the flavor of the Coconut Ladoo. However, if you are in a rush and the coconut powder that you are using is fresh then you can avoid the roasting process.

Can these Coconut Ladoo last outside at room temperature?
Since we are adding milk and not cooking it further the Ladoos won't stay good outside at room temperature. It could last outside for a day max. After that, you need to refrigerate them.
Can I add color to these Ladoos?
Yes, you can definitely add gel food color to the Ladoos, I love adding lemon yellow or light pink to mine.

What if I don't coat the outside with coconut powder?
If you do not coat the coconut Ladoo with condensed milk in the coconut powder then the Ladoos will be sticky and stick to your hand while eating.
How long will the Ladoo stay good?
The Ladoos will stay good out at room temperature for a day and in the fridge for up to a week. I personally like the Ladoos which are refrigerated.
